Fondation René Lacoste - Rene Lacoste Foundation

The René Lacoste Foundation supports the Sports sans Frontières Association

Sports sans Frontières

Created in September 1999, this association organises programmes for education and development through sport for underprivileged women and children throughout the world.

The project that the foundation is going to support concerns a Women and Sport programme in Afghanistan. Together with the Afghan Ministry for Women’s Affairs and the Afghan National Olympic Committee, the project aims to create and run a place historically devoted to women, “The Women’s Garden”. Its objective will be to promote the individual and social development of Afghan women.

The aim of this programme is to develop a sporting resources centre (sports, education, psychosocial assistance) for women from Kabul but also for institutional players working in the educational field.
Several key strategies have been defined:

I. Develop access to sport for women
II. Promote exchanges between women
III. During these exchanges, address sensitive women’s issues: health, hygiene, STDs, nutrition.

A second multi-sport platform programme for the Hazara de Deh Qabel community, a very underprivileged district of Kabul, is also on the agenda for this Afghanistan Mission.
Organised in partnership with the NGO Enfants du Monde Droits de l’Homme, it began in May 2007.
Through the development of physical and sporting activities such as volley-ball, basket-ball, football, bodily expression and traditional games, the aim is to bring more dynamism to this district and contribute towards development, education and social integration within this community.
