Fondation René Lacoste - Rene Lacoste Foundation

The René Lacoste Foundation supports Athletes of the World created in February 2006 by Jean Galfione, Olympic pole vaulting champion, Alain Trouvé, a martial arts teacher and Vincent Ohl, a photographer.

Athlètes du Monde

To help with the psychological rebuilding and socialisation of severely traumatised youths and women through the use of physical and sporting activities as a therapeutic tool for personal emancipation and rehabilitation.

The objectives of Athletes of the World are:

- Develop sustainable action in the field by training professional sports educators for humanitarian work around the world.

- Create a “sporting solidarity” network to carry out international lobbying within the sporting world to raise local and international awareness of children and women’s rights.

Background:

Athletes of the World was the association chosen by the French Ministry for Youth, Sports and Associations to carry out the implementation of an action plan to reinforce the notion of solidarity behind the Francophonie Games held in Niger in 2005.
This first experience was what sparked the idea of renewing the project, with more time and more resources, for the forthcoming Francophonie Games to be held in Lebanon in September 2009.

Project methodology:

- Help the population to manage its young children by organising fun, sporting activities in a still unstable, post-conflict era Lebanon.

- Contribute towards providing assistance to children traumatised by conflict, in particular though existing programmes supported by other NGOs or by the government itself.

- Contribute towards highlighting the notion of solidarity behind the future Francophonie Games to be held in Lebanon in 2009.
