For its first action, the René Lacoste Foundation has chosen to sponsor Yannick Noah’s association “Fête le Mur”.
”Fête le Mur” and the René Lacoste Foundation share the same objective: allowing disadvantaged youth to re-integrate society, through the practice of tennis.
Because the south-west was a region that was dear to René Lacoste, the René Lacoste Foundation has symbolically chosen to subsidise the ”Fête le Mur” sites in Pau, Toulouse and Bayonne. The Bayonne site will be inaugurated on 18 October next.
The René Lacoste Foundation will support the creation of an annual tennis training course called “Fête le Mur” on the tennis courses of the Chantaco Golf Course in Saint Jean de Luz that the “crocodile” himself had designed in the heart of the Basque Country.
The René Lacoste Foundation will also participate in organising the annual ”Fête le Mur” tournament, and “Lacoste” champions will travel to the various sites of the association all throughout the year, to meet young people. In the same manner, the René Lacoste Foundation wishes to develop the allocation of training grants for the more deserving young people in the association.
Regarding this first action, we are happy, proud, and very enthusiastic to participate in it.
We are looking forward to new projects by the René Lacoste Foundation!
About ”Fête le Mur”
Yannick Noah, founder and president of “Fête le Mur”, wishes to give certain children from disadvantaged backgrounds a chance to play tennis. His project came to fruition in 1996.
The “Fête le Mur” association, which is set up in the heart of disadvantaged districts in 20 French cities, allows children from poor suburbs to play tennis, to improve in this sport and for some, to find professional opportunities. Professional teaching teams start them off and help them to progress.
The project has several parts: “sport,” “training” and since 2001, “umpiring.” Favouring access at a high level and reinforcing the social aspect of the project are today the two main objectives of “Fête le Mur.”
For the past 10 years the project has grown richer. Today, the desire to bring the best to a high level and to give those who are motivated the means to become umpires or to carry out qualified professional training has also become part of the initial introduction to tennis project.
Allowing as many children as possible to practice tennis and to flourish in this sport through values such as surpassing oneself, respect and solidarity, remain nonetheless the number one objective of “Fête de Mur.”
Objectives:
- Educating children through the practice of tennis.
- Favouring diversity on the sports ground from an early age.
- Allowing children to flourish and to live together in a spirit of solidarity and citizenship.
- Favouring access to professional and high-level training for those who are most motivated.
