Fondation René Lacoste - Rene Lacoste Foundation

In 2003 the Dade Amateur Golf Association (DAGA) became a First Tee Miami centre, recognised and respected throughout the world.

First Tee Miami

The Dade Amateur Golf Association was created in 1968 to promote the game of golf in Dade County. It rapidly became a veritable nursery for talent, with Tracy Kerdyk, Christie Kerr, Eric Compton, Tina Miller and now James Vargas, the best junior American player.

The purpose of this Association is to enable young people from all social backgrounds, particularly those from the less wealthy neighbourhoods, to discover golf, via numerous programmes:

- Learning life’s true values, through the values portrayed by golf
- Education, after-school tutoring.
- Summer Camps

The project subsidised by the René Lacoste Foundation consists in financing summer camps to enable the young people from the Hispanic neighbourhoods of Miami to discover golf, but also the values that are projected by this sport.

Those who wish to continue golf after the Summer Camps are able to participate in the different programmes set up by the DAGA throughout the school year:

- Golf clinics, which are free for the poorest children, on Saturdays and Sundays
- Easter Programme, with support from the “boys and Girls” of Miami
- Different tournaments

The aim of these different programmes is to prepare these young people to be part of the golf teams in their schools and possibly to obtain a grant from a university.
