The René Lacoste Foundation, in partnership with the Fédération Française de Golf, the Golf National, the Communauté d’Agglomération de St Quentin en Yvelines and the Secours Populaire (French humanitary association), is pleased to set up a pilot programme, unique in France, to promote accessibility to golf.
Each year, this programme will allow 24 young people living in the Saint Quentin en Yvelines region to learn to play golf at the Golf National school.
The group of young people will be made up of children from 8 – 11 years’ old (ideal age group for taking up golf and being monitored over a long period).
The 24 children will join the other 120 players taking lessons at the golf course.
They will have group lessons in the morning, followed by lunch at the golf club.
Once a month on Wednesdays they will participate in different afternoon activities (playing a round of golf, attending workshops on golfing topics: meeting with green keepers, referees, golf champions).
The children will have access to the golf facilities on Saturdays and will be able to play on the course if they wish.
They will be assigned one or two tutors.
The training programme followed by the children will enable them to learn to play golf, with “flags” awarded as different levels are reached (official French federal recompense marking the progression of young golfers).
Within the Golf National, the training of the young players selected will highlight the high level of amateur golf in France (the Golf National is a centre of excellence for promising young players), the high level of professional golf in France (the Golf National houses the golf school) and provide the children with a general overview of the golfing world and of the different professions englobed within.
A golf initiation day will be proposed to the Secours Populaire families so that the children can try out this new sport to see if they like it.
